Board of Directors

Donna Wooten – Board Chair: Donna Wooten is a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. She worked for 25 years as a scientist and retired from Dow Chemical in 2008. Two months after retiring, she joined the board of FACES and is currently serving as Chair.
Lula Davis – Board Vice Chair: Currently Co Chair of FACES, retired from Dept of Veteran Affairs 2009. MSN and MBA degrees from Marymount University. Member of First Baptist Church FV, served 6 years on the FACES Board of Directors with a one year break. Returned to the Board 2022. Also previously served as Chair and Vice Chair
Susie Lemar – Board Treasurer: I am married almost 28 years to a wonderful man who works in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to our marriage, I was a single mom and experienced many forms of government and military assistance, having two jobs and attending school. My family is a military family – grandfather in the army, mother in the Navy Reserves, father in the Navy; retiring as Master Chief, as well as my former husband in the Navy.
We moved constantly around the US and ended up in California; finally moving myself and two kids to the East Coast: home mainly. With only a GED and a few college credits to my name, I was able to become Director of Administration and Operations for BT Ginns (now Office Depot) Business Furniture Division. I then became Assistant Controller and Systems Admin for Laidlaw Waste Systems (now Waste Management) which, at the time, was a huge company with divisions all over North America. I was grateful for the opportunity and being promoted to Corporate Instructor. I dabbled a bit in Real Estate creating my own marketing company specifically for Realtors – doing graphic design, websites, logos, business cards, etc. By 2012 I was blessed to be able to step away from the working world and focus on the work inside my home. My husband just accepted a new job in North Carolina in 2021 so our adventure and next chapter is yet to be written.
I volunteer because others volunteered for me. Plain and simple. Thank you FACES volunteers and
workers for all you do in the community. I am proud to be a part of it.
Eva Lowery – Board Secretary: Eva Lowery rejoined the FACES Board in January 2022 and serves as the Board’s secretary. She previously served on the Board for nine years. Eva represents First Baptist Church – Fuquay where she serves in may capacities. She is been married to Rev. Dr. Reginald U. Lowery for 42 years. Together, they have served First Baptist Church for 14 years. Eva has been employed by Wake Med Health and Hospitals for the past 21 years.
Rev. Robert Thomas – Board Member: I was born in 1950, and was raised Roman Catholic, I later joined the Franciscans where I found love and joy in the Eucharist, Sacrament of Reconciliation and daily self-examines. I realized that God was showing us His boundless love and calling us to be a part of that love.  As a deacon in the Episcopal church, my life’s call is to live out the Franciscan values of peacemaking, service to and justice for the poor and oppressed.

I am married to my wonderful wife Cyn and we have two sons, born 17 years apart, Doug, the younger, lives in Providence, RI. Bill, our first born, is living in Delaware with his wife, Margaret, their daughter Stephanie, my granddaughter who lives in the Seattle, Washington area with Daric, made me a great-grandfather about eleven years ago.

My work today is principally secular, having just finished church-based ministry as deacon at Trinity Episcopal Church here in Fuquay-Varina, where I served as co-head of the parish’s Outreach Committee. I am currently serving in the Episcopal Church as Dean of the Raleigh Convocation, while awaiting assignment from the Bishop.
John Babson – Board Member, Community Relations Liaison: In the spring of my junior year of college, I had a definitive verbal encounter with the Almighty. This radical experience led me to switch my career path from the legal field to Christian ministry. Toward the end of my senior college year, I gave the right of my life into Christ’s unconditional love. I graduated from Hillsdale College in Michigan with a double major. The following fall I entered graduate school with the purpose of preparing for pastoral ministry. Four years later I graduated from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts. I met wife Nancy, graduate from Wheaton College in Illinois also at GCTS. We have three adult kids with five grands between them.

Upon my graduation and our marriage, we moved to Ohio where I was Ordained as a Baptist minister – all within four months. What a ride it’s been serving the Lord’s worldwide Church. In addition to OH, He has taken us to Singapore, the Philippines, PA, FL, Halifax, NS Canada, MA, NH, and now NC.
It’s been our privilege to serve in  every type of pastoral role from associate, missionary, church planter, settled solo, senior and lead pastor with a ministry staff. During these seasons of congregational service, I have held local to national leadership roles in community service, different denominations and executive director with four regional marketplace ministries.

I am firmly of the opinion to “bloom where you’re planted”. I try to support by my involvement community businesses and nonprofits for the common good. We enjoy residing in and interacting with the varieties of people calling Fuquay-Varina “a dash more”!
